VieVinum 2022 will present two highly diverse Italian wine-growing regions, South Tyrol and Sicily, as this year’s guests of honour. Each of these regions are highly magnetic to wine lovers, who can experience an in-depth look into the essence of the wines through masterclasses offered at the School of Wine.

Two wine-growing regions of one country whose viticultural conditions are very diverse. The Alps and Etna are two indepedent “poles“ that have allowed for completely individual terroirs to develop - today they are home  to  rare  grape  varieties  such  as  Grillo, Nero  d'Avola, Lagrein and even Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc).  As much  as  South  Tyrol  and  Sicily  are united by “otherness“, winemakers in both  regions have  successfully  recognised  the importance of the autochthonous grape varieties and viticultural attributes there, and have dedicated themselves to preserving them. They are rightly appreciated and celebrated internationally for this unwavering commitment.

The Wines of Sicilia DOC

The Consorzio Sicilia DOC is the first organisation in Sicily's history to promote and preserve the diversity of indigenous grape varieties. The Sicilia DOC comprises both small and large wineries dedicated to vinifying indigenous Sicilian white and red wines that are subject to strict quality specifications. "The Sicilia DOC wines are products that reflect a great respect for nature," says Antonio Rallo, president of Sicilia DOC. "The array of grape varieties makes it easier to combine these wines with all culinary traditions."

The Wines of South Tyrol

The Südtirol Wein consortium was founded in 2007 as a platform for marketing and promoting the image of South Tyrolean viticulture. It is an association of cellar cooperatives, wineries and independent winegrowers. As one of the smallest wine regions in Italy, the South Tyrol has a unique geographical location and is exceptionally multifaceted.
